Barolo 'Prapò' from Piedmont winery Schiavenza is an elegant and profound expression of this Additional Geographical Mention of Serralunga d'Alba. This MGA, located in the central-northern part of the commune, is the most vocated parcel of Bricco della Cerretta, which has always been known for the quality of the wines to which it gives rise. The Schiavenza winery, which has been operating in the Serralunga area since 1956, faithfully interprets this prized vineyard, expressing its full potential. Together with 'Broglio' and 'Bricco Cerretta,' 'Prapò' is part of the Barolo selections offered by the estate led by owner, oenologist and agronomist Luciano Pira.
Schiavenza Barolo 'Prapò' comes from only Nebbiolo grapes grown in the MGA of Prapò, within the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. Here, the vines are trained with guyot training on limestone-tufa soils at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level with southeastern exposure. Harvesting is done by hand at a slightly late period, around the middle or end of October. The grapes are then mash in concrete tanks for alcoholic fermentation at a temperature of 25-30 °C, with 15-20 days of maceration on the skins. The ensuing aging phase takes place in large oak barrels and continues for at least 24 months before final bottling.
In the glass, the Barolo 'Prapò' from the Schiavenza winery reality exhibits a ruby-red guise with garnet hues. The olfactory range is elegant and broad, defined by intense scents of strawberry, cherry, rose, violet, forest berries, licorice and dried leaves, enhanced by hints of dark and oriental spices. In the mouth it is structured and complex, with a lively freshness and savory timbre that combine with a splendid tannic momentum.
